We hosts events, hands-on activities and learning experiences for kids of all ages. Come meet real veterinarians, learn about caring for animals in rural communities and discover how you can start your journey into rural veterinary medicine early!
ExpOSUre: Livestock Docs
Students ages 8 to 18 participate in a series of stations, each led by established
livestock veterinarians and veterinary students. From tail-tying procedures to calving
simulations, participants are fully exposed to a day in the life of a mixed-practice
veterinarian.
4-H Vet Science Short Course
The event gives students the opportunity to gain insight about veterinary school from
current vet students and learn about career opportunities from current veterinarians. During the two-day event, students participate in several hands-on demonstrations
including a disease outbreak simulation, animal anatomy, a small animal exam, equine
limb bandaging and calving simulations. Attendee’s must be entering the 9th, 10th,
11th or 12th grade in the Fall of 2025 to be eligible.

FFA Career Development Events (CDE)
Veterinary Science
The Oklahoma FFA Veterinary Science CDE is an annual competition hosted at the OSU
CVM. Designed to foster college and career readiness, this event provides high school FFA
members with opportunities to develop technical knowledge and demonstrate practical
skills essential to the veterinary science profession.
Open House
Our annual Open House offers a unique opportunity for the public to explore the diverse
world of veterinary medicine. Attendees can engage in activities like the teddy bear surgery, anatomy and parasitology
showcases, and learn about the importance of veterinary medicine. Designed to educate
and inspire, Open House is a perfect opportunity for children to spark an early interest
in veterinary medicine.
Education Resource Modules
If you're a young student considering a future in rural veterinary medicine, Farm
Journal Foundation and the Solutions Mapping Coalition have created an online education
and resource hub designed just for you. This platform offers interactive learning
modules that introduce you to the world of rural and food-systems veterinary careers.
Ferguson College of Agriculture
Pre-Professional Programs
The Ferguson College of Agriculture at OSU offers comprehensive pre-veterinary programs
designed to prepare undergraduate students for veterinary school. With majors in areas such as animal science, biochemistry and molecular biology, and
natural resource ecology and management, students receive a strong foundation in the
sciences while completing necessary veterinary prerequisite courses.
