Producers and Practitioners
Already working in rural veterinary medicine? We’re here to support you, too.
We offer a range of events tailored for producers and veterinary professionals, including continuing education, extension programs, hands-on seminars and conferences. Whether you're looking to stay up to date on the latest in animal health, connect with peers or strengthen your impact in the community, our programs are designed to support and enrich your work in rural settings.
Continuing Education
The College of Veterinary Medicine offers Continuing Education programs to veterinary
professionals. OSU CE programs allow professionals to stay up-to-date in areas of
practice management and veterinary medicine. The college has a long history of offering
face-to-face conferences and seminars, and recently launched an online continuing
education platform that provides greater access for all individuals.
Beef Extension
Beef Extension at OSU offers an excellent opportunity for veterinary professionals
and livestock producers to stay engaged with the latest advancements in beef cattle
health, management and production. Through collaboration, education and outreach,
Beef Extension helps bridge the gap between veterinary medicine and the beef industry,
supporting rural communities and improving herd health outcomes.
Integrated Beef Cattle Program
To counteract the shortage of rural veterinarians, Oklahoma State University seeks
to offer intervention strategies for rural sustainability by expanding veterinary
skills and knowledge of herd health, food nutrition, forage management, reproductive
management, and other common needs of beef producers.
Externships
By serving as an externship site, you’ll give DVM students the chance to work alongside
experienced professionals like you in a real-world rural setting. These immersive
experiences offer students hands-on learning in mixed animal practice, food animal
medicine and community-based care—while giving them a deeper understanding of the
challenges and rewards of rural veterinary work. Your mentorship can inspire future
veterinarians and strengthen the future of rural practice.
Clerkships
As a clerkship site for the OSU CVM, you’ll provide fourth-year DVM students with
advanced, hands-on clinical experience in a rural practice setting. These rotations
offer students a deeper look into food animal medicine, mixed practice and herd health,
while also exposing them to the day-to-day realities and rewards of rural veterinary
life. Your guidance not only enhances their education—it helps build a stronger, more
prepared rural veterinary workforce.
