OSU partners with Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health to host Advanced Equine Diagnostics Event

Monday, July 17, 2023

Woman examines horses legOklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine recently hosted a two-day seminar June 9 and 10 for equine veterinary practitioners, sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health and Midwest Vet Supply.

Participants attended lectures and wet labs throughout the seminar. Dr. Megan Williams, assistant professor in equine surgery, presented a lecture on regional nerve blocks of the head. Following the lecture, participants attended a hands-on lab to exercise their skills. Dr. Mike Schoonover, associate professor of equine surgery and sports medicine, presented a regional limb profusion lecture. The participants were then given the opportunity to put the technique into practice in a wet lab. Dr. A.J. Manship, clinical assistant professor for equine internal medicine, presented a lecture on catheter selection, where participants practiced using catheters in the lab.

“It’s awesome to see vets back in their zone and getting to interact with other veterinary practitioners in many different stages of life,” said Troy Williams, senior equine territory manager for Boehringer Ingelheim.

The advanced equine diagnostics event provided a space for practitioners to improve their abilities. This event was a great opportunity for the college to showcase its resources and facilitate relationship building among equine veterinarians.

“You have your up days and your down days, and this event is without a doubt one of my up days,” said Dr. Gerald Radde, participant. “The opportunity to take in new knowledge and apply it is something you don’t want to turn down.”
