Session 1:  The Ins and Outs of Fluid Therapy in Small Animals

Dr. Biddick graduated from veterinary school at Oklahoma State University in 2012. She completed 2 years of internships in private practices then pursued a residency in Small Animal Emergency & Critical Care at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. She worked in private practice for several years before returning to OSU as an Assistant Professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine. She is currently serving as the Director of the veterinary school's Clinical Skills, Clinical Reasoning & Communications program.

What You Will Learn:  This session reviews the fundamentals of body water physiology and fluid balance, distinguishing dehydration from shock and highlighting how fluid needs vary across different age groups. Participants will explore the characteristics and appropriate use of intravenous fluids, compare fluid administration strategies, and learn how to monitor therapy while recognizing potential complications associated with IV fluid management.

Dr. Tiffany Tapp discovered her passion for veterinary dermatology early in her career, drawn to the specialty's mix of complex medical problem-solving and rewarding, patient-focused care. After earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University, she completed a rigorous rotating internship at Auburn University. Driven to specialize, she went on to complete a transformative residency alongside the renowned mentorship team of Drs. Muse, Rosenkrantz, and Griffin at the Animal Dermatology Group in Southern California, mastering advanced diagnostic and treatment options. Upon achieving board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, Dr. Tapp fulfilled a long-held dream by establishing her own premier specialty practice in Rhode Island. As a specialist, she takes immense joy in improving her patients' quality of life—helping companion animals live comfortably free from chronic skin disease and debilitating allergies, which in turn strengthens the bond they share with their families. Education is a core pillar of Dr. Tapp’s mission. Beyond her daily clinical casework, she is deeply committed to guiding pet owners through chronic care management and collaborating with fellow veterinary teams to elevate the standard of allergy treatment.

Of course, as any dermatologist will tell you, no career in this field is complete without a personal muse at home. For Dr. Tapp, that inspiration is the famous Holden the Golden. As a food-allergic and atopic Golden Retriever, Holden serves as her daily reminder of the patience required for chronic care, a constant inspiration for her work, and the true, undisputed manager of her household.
