PURPOSE

The Veterinary Faculty Council (VFC) serves as a representative body for faculty of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) of Oklahoma State University. The VFC's mission is to participate in an advisory and referral capacity to the CVM Dean on matters such as policy, processes, and short- and long-range planning. The VCF also serves as a liaison between faculty, college leadership, college standing committees, and the University Faculty Council. VFC makes policy recommendations to the Dean and brings matters to the attention of the CVM faculty for discussion during faculty assemblies.

VFC operates under the principle that faculty will strive to be excellent when given the proper support and autonomy in an environment in which they are valued academic members.

Guided by the core values of TRUSTTransparency, Respect, Unity, Shared Governance, and Teamwork, the VFC is engaged in shared governance processes that promote open communication, consultation, trust and mutual respect.

The faculty of the CVM believes that a strong faculty voice is foundational in creating a solid working relationship with administration in developing a premier CVM and contributing to the missions of our land-grant university. Thus, VFC serves as a conduit for faculty ideas and concerns and disseminates important information to faculty across departments within the CVM.

MEMBERSHIP

The VFC is composed of eight representatives, two from each CVM department and two at large members, including both tenure- and career-track faculty members that reflects the composition of each department. Representatives from each academic department is elected by a vote of the faculty members in their respective departments and at-large VFC members are elected by a college-wide faculty vote. The CVM Dean and the CVM representative to the University Faculty Council serve as ex officio (non-voting) members of the VFC.
