What to Expect

The appointment will begin with a fourth year veterinary student or technician escorting you to the exam room, where he/she will take history and perform a physical exam. The cardiologist will then perform an exam and discuss diagnostics and a plan.

Although it is difficult to estimate the cost before examining your pet, here are some useful guidelines:

  • The fee for an examination is approximately $100 for your pet's first visit.
  • The basic cardiology work-up of an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) and examination starts at approximately $420.
  • Additional testing may be indicated such as blood work, chest radiographs (X-rays), blood pressure, electrocardiogram (ECG), and Holter monitor.
  • A typical cardiology work-up and visit will vary between about $400 and $800, with an average of about $500 to $600.

An estimate of your cost will be provided to you before any diagnostic testing. Previous tests are helpful for comparison, so please bring any previous radiographs or blood work that has been performed.
