Principal Investigator

Véronique Anne Lacombe, D.V.M., Ph.D., Dipl. ACVIM, Dipl. ECEIM

Dr. Lacombe is a Professor in the Department of Physiological Sciences at Oklahoma State University. She earned her DVM degree from the National Veterinary School of Maisons-Alfort near Paris, France. After completing a residency in large animal internal medicine at the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, she earned her Ph.D. and then completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Ohio State’s College of Pharmacy. Prior to joining the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Lacombe was a Research Assistant Professor at the Ohio State’s College of Pharmacy. Lacombe is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal) and a Diplomate of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine.

Postdoctoral Fellow

Allison Campolo, MS, Ph.D.

Dr. Campolo received a Bachelor’s in Spanish from the University of North Texas and in Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas. She received her Master's in International Agriculture in 2016 from Oklahoma State University, and her Ph.D. in Dr. Lacombe’s lab in 2019. Her research focus is Cardiorespiratory Complications Associated with Diabetes.

Graduate Students

Kaushalya Jayathilake, DVM

Dr. Jayathilake received her BVSc from faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. After graduation she worked as a clinician and a temporary lecturer in the Department of Farm animal production and Health, University of Peradeniya. Jayathilake is a Masters candidate and has a research focus of Equine Metabolic Syndrome and its underlying mechanisms.

Matthew Rochowski

Matthew Rochowski began his college career at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where he completed his two year pre-pharmacy program while playing D-1 NCAA soccer. Later, Rochowski transferred to Mercer University to study Biochemistry and continue playing soccer. While at Mercer, he studied the SOS response of bacterium in a Molecular Genetics research lab.

Since then, Rochowski has retired from soccer to focus on Biochemistry at Oklahoma State University.

Matthew Rochowski joined the Comparative Metabolism Laboratory in Fall 2018 and completed his bachelor's in Biochemistry at Oklahoma State University during Summer of 2019. He then decided to join the Comparative Metabolism Laboratory as a graduate student to research molecular pathways in both diabetes and influenza infection.

Undergraduate Students

Rachel Abraham

Rachel Abraham graduated high school in 2017 from the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics. She joined the lab in the fall of 2018 and has been selected as a Niblack Research Scholar for the upcoming year.

Shawn Allen

Shawn Allen joined the lab in summer 2019. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Applied Exercise Science, while serving as a member in the Oklahoma National Guard.

Chase Calkins

Chase is currently an undergraduate senior planning to graduate in December 2020 with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. Chase is currently completing his honors thesis studying the role of AMPK during influenza infection.

Bri Clary

bri clary

Bri Clary joined the lab in Summer 2020. She will graduate in Spring 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and plans to attend veterinary school the following school year.
