The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Oklahoma State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine seeks relief veterinarians and locums for day and after-hour small animal emergency and critical care in the college’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. As a member of the team, you will share duties with another ER clinician and criticalist and have the opportunity to actively participate in one-on-one training of veterinary interns and students as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide the highest standard of veterinary care. Internship training is required.
- Receiving emergency cases as a primary doctor
- Overseeing interns when they are the primary doctor
- Being primary doctor on cases transferred to the ECC service and secondary clinician on cases hospitalized in the ICU
- Lead topic rounds for the students and interns when possible
- Calling referral veterinarians to obtain information about referring cases
- Clear communication with the referral DVM about the case that was referred to us
The service is well staffed with a veterinary nurse corp. A very competitive stipend will be offered.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a 145,000 square foot, full-service veterinary teaching hospital providing 24-hour care for all domestic and selected exotic and wildlife species. Our hospital admits more than 15,500 clinical cases per year, and hospitalizes five to eight ICU cases per day. Our ICU is a state-of-the-art facility and is fully staffed with capable, competent technicians. We are equipped with digital radiography, MRI, CT, ultrasound, endoscopy, 24-hour access to full clinical pathology lab, oxygen cages, pulse oximetry, I-Stat point-of-care testing, telemetry, blood pressure and CVP monitoring, Pleur-Evac suction units, and ventilator therapy.
