Dr. Carlos Risco

“The idea for the Institute for Translational and Emerging Research in Advanced Comparative Therapy or INTERACT came from our long successful history in conducting clinical trials in diseases that affect both small and large animals to develop or discover new therapies as well as diagnostics,” said Dr. Carlos Risco, dean of OSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine. “I wanted to establish INTERACT to foster and enhance inter-departmental and interdisciplinary research bringing our clinicians and our basic scientists together to work in research to discover novel therapy.

“INTERACT will give our college opportunities to conduct industry and government sponsored research. Importantly, it will advance our reputation as a tier I research institution. INTERACT will provide our faculty, our college, with the resources and the expertise in our mission for innovation in human and animal health. It will also be very helpful to our faculty in career development and in their progress as academic veterinarians.

“This institute will allow the veterinary college to continue in our mission of One Health as we strive to solve evolving societal needs. INTERACT will give us an opportunity to develop, discover therapy, novel therapy, that will benefit both human and animal patients. It will also expand evidence-based training of our students and perhaps motivate our students to conduct research or to consider an academic career after graduation.
I am extremely grateful to our faculty for their dedication, their commitment to research and service for the benefit of all Oklahomans.”

The Institute for Translational and Emerging Research in Advanced Comparative Therapy (INTERACT) aims to fulfill One Health research by conducting parallel investigations in both humans and animals. INTERACT promotes interdisciplinary research within the veterinary college, across the OSU campus and throughout the state and nation by developing and translating discoveries into therapies for patients. INTERACT has faculty participants from almost all OSU colleges, industry experts, foundation partners, and personnel from other academic institutions around the country.
