Dr. Jerry Ritchey was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. At an early age, he made a commitment to become a veterinarian because of the excitement for the profession exhibited from one of his first mentors, Dr. John T. Gage (OSU CVM 1971).

 

Dr. Ritchey completed a BS in Microbiology from Oklahoma State in 1987 and entered the DVM curriculum graduating in 1991. Following graduation, Dr. Ritchey completed a residency in anatomic pathology at North Carolina State University, immediately followed by a PhD in Immunology. At the conclusion of training, Dr. Ritchey came back home to Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and fulfilled his dream of being a faculty member and working with two valuable mentors, Drs. Roger Panciera and Tony Confer. Dr. Ritchey has enjoyed a successful academic career and is currently a Professor of Pathology and Associate Dean of Academic & Student Affairs.

 

Along the way, he has served as Head of the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology and has twice served as interim Director of the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. Dr. Ritchey has over 100 publications, most from research in animal models infectious diseases in projects funded by the USDA and NIH. Dr. Ritchey has been recognized as a Zoetis Distinguished Teaching Award, OSU Regents Distinguished Teaching Award and has been elected by several graduating CVM classes to deliver their commencement address.

 

Dr. Ritchey has been active in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists serving on the Board of Directors and currently as President of the organization. Dr. Ritchey serves as Class Representative for the CVM class of 1991.
